In case you might’ve missed the news, there’s a long weekend coming up thanks to the Golden Week holiday. It also happily coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations too. If a hotel staycation isn’t for you, we’ve put together a little list of things to do to maximise the extra time off during this festive season!

Island Hopping

There are 263 islands in Hong Kong with Hong Kong Island being the most famous. If you’re itching to travel somewhere, why not take a ferry to fishing village Cheung Chau, Geosite Ap Chau or serene Peng Chau? These smaller quieter islands are all less than 40 mins away from Central by ferry. If you’d like to explore further afield, check out the ruggedly scenic Tung Lung Chau or visit an abandoned Hakka village on Yim Tin Tsai.

deTour Special

For a burst of creative inspiration, PMQ in Soho is hosting the deTour Special until the 4th of October. Highlighting the best works from deTour 2019, reinterpret the old with fresh new eyes. Titled “NEW OLD. OLD NEW” the exhibition will feature both local and international artists immersing visitors in experiential works of art.

Waterfall Hikes

We’re blessed with the variety of hikes around Hong Kong, and even more so that some also include a waterfall to relax and lounge by or to have a dip to cool off. Our Weave Living recommendation is to visit Silvermine waterfalls, only 2 km away from Mui Wo Pier on Lantau Island. You can walk directly from the pier following the beach. Before reaching Silvermine Beach Resort, turn left and head straight where you’ll see signs directing you to the waterfall.

Purple Flower Galore at Harbour North

Open until the 4th of October, Harbour North in North Point will be hosting a famous Japanese Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Gardens inspired event. A 3,000 ft wide space will be filled with hydrangeas, a 20m long wisteria tunnel and a number of flower-themed installations throughout the shopping centre.

Rediscover Hong Kong

Once upon a time, flying was as simple as booking a ticket if you ever needed an escape. Today, that’s a different story but it’s still easy to escape this big cosmopolitan city. Visit Kowloon City to explore little Thailand, or head to Sugar Street in Causeway Bay for a taste of little Indonesia. If you’re curious on a Sunday, visit the World Trade Centre right next to IFC in Central and discover little Philippines. You’ll be transported to South-East Asia without jumping on the plane.
